Discovering China: A Journey Through Time with TripADeal

Discovering China: A Journey Through Time with TripADeal

China, a land where ancient traditions seamlessly blend with modern innovations, offers a travel experience like no other. I embarked on the "China Discovery" tour with TripADeal, flying with China Eastern, eager to explore the cultural richness and historical grandeur of this vast country. My journey took me through the bustling cities of Beijing, Hangzhou, Suzhou and Shanghai, each offering its own unique charm and unforgettable experiences. You can follow my detailed travel itinerary and experiences on my Polarsteps trip: China TripADeal.

Beijing: The Heart of Ancient China

Beijing, the capital city, was our first stop. As we touched down at Beijing Daxing International Airport, the excitement was palpable. Our adventure began with a visit to the iconic Tiananmen Square, the world's largest public square, and the magnificent Forbidden City, a sprawling imperial palace complex that served as the home of Chinese emperors for nearly 500 years. Walking through its ancient halls and courtyards, I could almost hear the whispers of history.

No trip to Beijing would be complete without a visit to the Great Wall of China. We explored the Juyongguan section, known for its breathtaking views and well-preserved architecture. Climbing the steep steps and gazing out over the rugged landscape, I felt a profound sense of awe and accomplishment.

Hangzhou: The City of Heavenly Scenery

Next, we flew to Hangzhou, renowned for its natural beauty and historic relics. The highlight of our visit was West Lake, a UNESCO World Heritage site. We took a leisurely boat ride across the serene waters, surrounded by lush greenery and picturesque pagodas. The tranquil atmosphere was a stark contrast to the bustling streets of Beijing.

Hangzhou is also famous for its tea culture, and we had the pleasure of visiting a traditional tea plantation. Learning about the meticulous process of growing, harvesting and brewing tea was fascinating, and tasting the delicate flavours of freshly brewed Longjing tea was an absolute delight.

Lingering Garden

Suzhou: The Venice of the East

Our journey continued to Suzhou, often referred to as the "Venice of the East" due to its intricate network of canals. This charming city is known for its classical Chinese gardens, and we visited the Lingering Garden, one of the most famous. The garden's harmonious blend of water features, rock formations and meticulously manicured plants exemplified the art of Chinese garden design.

We also had the chance to explore Suzhou's silk industry. A visit to a silk factory revealed the intricate process of silk production, from silkworm farming to weaving the delicate threads into beautiful fabrics. It was a captivating experience that showcased the city's rich cultural heritage.

Shanghai: A Modern Metropolis

Our final destination was Shanghai, a city that epitomises modern China with its towering skyscrapers and bustling streets. The Bund, a famous waterfront area, offered stunning views of the city’s skyline. Strolling along the historic promenade, we marvelled at the juxtaposition of colonial-era buildings and futuristic architecture.

Exploring the city using Shanghai’s efficient metro system was an adventure in itself. The metro is an extensive and well-organised network that made it easy to navigate the city and discover its many attractions. From the bustling shopping streets of Nanjing Road to the serene Yuyuan Garden, each stop offered something unique.

In the evening, we embarked on a mesmerising night-time river cruise along the Huangpu River. The illuminated skyline of Shanghai, with its dazzling skyscrapers and vibrant lights, provided a breathtaking backdrop. As we cruised past the iconic Oriental Pearl Tower and the impressive Shanghai Tower, the city’s dynamic energy and beauty left an indelible impression.
