Disney Dreams and LA Adventures: A Family Getaway to Anaheim

Disney Dreams and LA Adventures: A Family Getaway to Anaheim

There’s something undeniably magical about Disneyland, especially when combined with the vibrant energy of Los Angeles. Our recent family trip to Anaheim, California, was a journey filled with love, laughter, and Disney magic. Joining me, Ben, were Bree, my mum, and my two boys, Lincoln and Parker, making this adventure one to remember. Here’s how we spent eight incredible days exploring Disneyland, California Adventure, and beyond.

Day 1: Arrival in Anaheim

After a long journey, we finally arrived in Anaheim and checked into the Wyndham Anaheim, our cozy base for the week. The hotel’s proximity to Disneyland made it the perfect spot to unwind and prepare for the exciting adventures ahead. After settling in, we had a relaxing evening, ready to dive into Disney the next day.

Day 2: California Adventure Park Fun

The trip began at California Adventure Park, where the Halloween spirit was alive and well. The park was decorated with festive pumpkins, spooky lights, and seasonal overlays on attractions.

Highlights included:

  • Radiator Springs Racers: Lincoln and Parker loved zooming through the desert in this thrilling Cars-themed ride.
  • The Incredicoaster: Bree stayed with the boys to film the thrilling launch while Mum and I tackled this high-speed rollercoaster together. The ride’s Pixar theming and exhilarating drops made it a standout moment of the day for all of us!
  • Plenty of Disney treats, like churros and themed snacks, added to the magic.

Thanks to our Lightning Lane passes, we breezed past the lines and made the most of every moment.

Day 3: Disneyland’s Classic Magic – Building Lightsabers at Galaxy’s Edge

 Disneyland Castle

We kicked off our first day at Disneyland Park with an out-of-this-world adventure at Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge. The highlight of the morning was a visit to Savi’s Workshop, where Lincoln and Parker (with a little help from Bree and me) built their very own custom lightsabers. Watching their eyes light up as they chose their kyber crystals and activated their sabers was unforgettable—it was a truly immersive experience that made us all feel like part of the Star Wars universe.

Afterward, we piloted the Millennium Falcon on Smugglers Run, a thrilling mission that had the boys cheering as we dodged asteroids and battled TIE Fighters. Later, we enjoyed Autopia, where Lincoln and Parker took the wheel of their own little cars, showing off their "driving" skills to much laughter. The kids loved the sense of control, while Mum and I enjoyed watching them in action.

With Halloween-themed rides like Space Mountain Ghost Galaxy, the spooky season magic was in full swing. Mum loved exploring the park’s nostalgic charm, and Bree and I couldn’t get enough of the iconic Sleeping Beauty Castle.

Day 4: A Universal Twist – Super Nintendo World

Universal Studios

To mix things up, we spent the day at Universal Studios Hollywood, where the excitement continued. The kids were absolutely thrilled to explore the brand-new Super Nintendo World, a vibrant and interactive land that brought their favorite video games to life. From entering through the iconic green warp pipe to battling it out in Mario Kart: Bowser’s Challenge, Lincoln and Parker couldn’t contain their excitement. The interactive elements, like punching blocks and collecting coins with Power-Up Bands, made the land a true highlight of the trip.

Day 5: Rest and Recharge

With so many busy days behind us, this was our chance to unwind. We explored the local area, enjoyed a fun family shopping trip to Walmart, and then spent the afternoon relaxing by the pool. Lincoln and Parker loved the chance to splash around, while Mum, Bree, and I enjoyed the downtime to recharge.

Day 6: Big Thunder Railroad, Sunset Rides & Couples' Night

The day started with a thrilling family ride on Big Thunder Mountain Railroad, where the kids giggled their way through the "wildest ride in the wilderness." It was an absolute highlight for everyone! As the sun began to set over the park, we wrapped up the day with a serene adventure on the Finding Nemo Submarine Voyage, diving "underwater" to explore the world of Nemo and his friends. Watching the vibrant sunset reflect off the water added a magical touch to the experience.

Later in the evening, Bree and I stayed behind for a special couples' night. We began with another spin on Big Thunder Mountain Railroad—a favorite of ours—before venturing into Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge. Wandering through the vibrant scenery and colorful lighting of Batuu at night felt like stepping onto another planet. We even tried the famous Blue Milk, a creamy and sweet galactic treat! We capped off the night with a nostalgic ride on Indiana Jones Adventure, marveling at the park’s unique nighttime atmosphere.

Day 7: Revisiting Disneyland Favorites and Fireworks

Our final full day at Disneyland Park was all about revisiting family favorites and exploring the rides we hadn’t yet experienced. Lincoln and Parker had another go at Autopia, showing off their “expert driving skills,” while we spent time enjoying the charming Fantasyland rides. From the whimsical Mad Tea Party to the enchanting Peter Pan’s Flight, the boys were captivated by the magic and wonder of Fantasyland.

Day 8: Marvel Campus and Farewell

On our last day, we returned to California Adventure to explore the park one final time. We kicked things off with a ride on the Grizzly River Run, where Mum and Lincoln got absolutely drenched, adding plenty of laughter to the day. From there, we ventured into the Marvel Campus, where the boys were mesmerised by the Avengers-themed attractions and live-action character appearances.

Before heading home, I took one last solo ride on the Incredicoaster, savoring the thrill of Pixar Pier. By late evening, it was time to head to the airport for our flight, suitcases packed with souvenirs and hearts full of cherished memories.
